I’ve been really enjoying returning to song-writing again recently after a hectic few months. It’s such a fulfilling part of my life and so I’m always pleased to have a new song to share.

Radio acoustic session and interview next Monday 7pm!!

I’m excited to say that I’ll be the featured artist on Hertfordshire’s Mix 92.6fm next Monday 18th September. I’ll be on the 7pm ‘Mix Studios: Live And Local’ show with Steve Simpson.

I’ll be playing acoustic versions of 3 of my songs from the EPs ‘Into The Unknown’ and ‘On Mt Luxmore’ and also talking about my teaching and composing career.

We’ll be covering everything from my music education work with Deaf students to writing songs inspired by hiking and mountains.

The host Steve Simpson is fantastic and so I recommend checking out the rest of his show too (It runs from 7pm-8pm). Listeners can tune in on 92.6FM online at mix926.com and on a smart speaker (Alexa, Play mix ninety two point six.)

It was great to hear 2 of my tracks featured on last week’s ‘Mix Studios: Live and Local’ show on Mix 92.6fm. The song ‘How We Used To Feel’ opened the show and ‘True Home’ was played towards the end along with some kind words from presenter Steve Simpson.

The other bands/artists on the show were brilliant and so I definitely recommend tuning in regularly to hear whats going on musically across Hertfordshire!

Look out for an acoustic session on Mix 92.6fm from me at some point in the future too!

New EP ‘Into The Unknown’ now available!

I’m very excited to say that my new Alt-Folk EP ‘Into The Unknown’ was released on Saturday! You can preview all 6 tracks here:

Here is a description of the EP:

“This uplifting and reflective alt-folk EP was created over 3 years and was inspired by themes including hiking, meditation and wild scenery. Songs such as ‘True Home’ describe the deep sense of contentment found walking in the mountains. Others like ‘Trust’ are written about the impermanence of the mental storms we pass through.

This EP blends folk acoustic and bluesy electric guitar tones, warm 80s synth sounds and intricate vocal melodies.

All songs were written and performed by Tom Hunt except for flute on ‘How We Used To Feel’ which was performed by Hannah Hunt.

Produced, mixed and mastered by Tom Hunt.”

I’ve put a lot of work and time into this but it’s ultimately been a real pleasure to put together. I hope you enjoy listening and stay tuned for some radio play of the EP in the coming weeks (more details to follow)!

My student Ryan’s compositions (part 2)

My work with Roman Fields School student Ryan (who has only just finished GCSEs) is always so exciting – he seems to never stop coming up with new ideas for songs and has already created 4 tracks this term for his demo CD. One of his top influences is the Hard Rock band Avenged Sevenfold, although his music shows inspiration from other styles too including Orchestral/Classical music and a little touch of Jazz!

Although I’ve already shared one of his songs, the other 3 are far too good to stay hidden away. So here are all of his songs so far – enjoy and please share around!

‘On Mt Luxmore’ new song and lyrics

I’ve been playing around with a few song ideas in recent months and last weekend was a big and unexpected dose of inspiration. Fortunately I had time to take advantage of it and so moved into the studio and finished my track ‘On Mt Luxmore’.

It’s a song about a hike I went on in New Zealand that besides being stunningly good looking, came at a pivotal time in my life. It had such a profound and restorative effect on me, that I decided to go on many more similar adventures over the coming years. I hope you enjoy it and for those who are interested here are the lyrics:

In a hut on the top of the world

Where history belonged only to the hills

New songs on the way…

Having been sitting on a few new songs for a while, I’m pleased to say that I’ve finally recorded them in a way that I’m happy with. The first song I’ve put online (which is in the ‘Listen’ section of this website) is called ‘The Kindness of Strangers’.

It’s written about the various hiking trips and adventures I’ve been on over the last several years and the wonderful people I’ve met along the way. I’ve been fortunate enough to trek/mountain climb in beautiful regions including New Zealand, Scotland and England’s Lake District. For me going off into wild areas like these, with only the strangers I meet as my companions, is an act of trust.

The first time I’d ever been above the clouds (without a plane) – Fiordland, New Zealand 2008.

I’m grateful that this trust has been rewarded with some great friends – the sort of people that look out for one another. Perhaps being in potentially dangerous (albeit extremely beautiful) environments, brings out the best nature of many people. The quiet beauty of such regions also has a way of putting smiles on people’s faces!

Whatever the reason, these good people are the inspiration for ‘The Kindness of Strangers’. Look out for the next song coming very soon…
