beginners guitar improvisation course

Improvising guitar solos has been one of my favourite parts of learning music since I first picked up a guitar. As well as being a useful skill for song-writing and performing live, it is a fantastic way to practice a variety of techniques. Guitar improvisation also has a powerful and varied effect on the brain, including increasing creativity and silencing your ‘inner critic’ (see this link for more info on this: How Improvisation Changes the Brain | Psychology Today)

This course’s step-by-step provides an accessible way for beginners to start creating guitar solos. It also offers a framework for guitarists of all levels to develop improvisation effectively for years to come.

‘Bouncing ideas’ off of other musicians is an especially effective way to learn to improvise and so each of the 8 approaches come with a ‘virtual jam’ with me!  These 8 videos have a format of taking turns with licks – I’ll improvise a line using the relevant method and then I’ll leave a space for you to do the same. You can play something similar to my lick or try something different. If you prefer to improvise guitar on your own then you can just use the backing track Mp3 provided instead.

The 6th method in this course: ‘Question and Answer’ phrasing

I hope this course enriches your enjoyment of music, helps you develop your creativity and most importantly builds your confidence that you can create a great guitar solo.
